You can find out all kinds of clues just by chatting with the client for an hour and finding out as much as you can about the project. You can find out this info before you agree a fee by chatting with the client and asking how they distribute their music, what formats/platforms, what they’re trying to achieve, their goals. Are you mixing the soundtrack for a TV production which will have a company budget.
